54. A Bride Wore A .44 by Maggie Shayne

Title: A Bride Wore A .44
Author: Maggie Shayne
Genre: Romance - Suspense
ISBN: 0-425-20564-9
Pages: 82
Rating: 5/5
Series/Anthology: In the anthology, "Kick @$$".

About this book:
Okay, there was no description for this book so I'm winging it myself.

Kira's engaged to Peter but without any memory of how that happened. Kira was in Africa when there was an explosion and she was caught in the middle of it. She lost her memory and is about to marry a man she doesn't remember at all. She finds a trunk full of her stuff in the attic and goes through it, trying to remember her life. She soon discovers that nothing is what it seems.

My thoughts:
Awesome story. I love Maggie Shayne's writing so much. I don't think I have not liked anything that she has written. She just hooks you right from the beginning. :)

I loved all the characters. The suspense in this story was awesome! I loved the loving relationship between Michael and Kira at the end. I loved the fact that she finally remembered everything and could love Michael after realizing why she put a distance between her and Michael before the explosion. Her father finally gave his blessing for them to be married. That was really nice. Great book all around from all angles.

52. Shades of Moonlight by Angie Ray

Title: Shades of Moonlight
Author: Angie Ray
Genre: Romance - Paranormal
ISBN: 0-425-16571-X
Pages: 80
Rating: 5/5
Series/Anthology: In the anthology, "Moonglow"

About this book:
After the death of a Regency rake, a lovely lady unexpectedly inherits his house...and finds it occupied by his seductive ghost. Solving the mystery surrounding his death will free his troubled spirit, but it may also break her heart.

My thoughts:
This story was surprisingly good. I thought the beginning kinda stupid to be honest because this ghost in the house that this woman inherits is almost like a real man. I don't understand the concept of being a ghost but looking real and he can hold a glass of whiskey and drink it but he can't he can't touch this woman. I thought that was crazy but like I said, it turned out to be quite enjoyable. I liked the ending of the story, it had a bit of a twist of magic and superstitions to it. Of course this is one of those storiest that you can figure out the ending before it even happens.

Author: Maggie Shayne
Genre: Romance - Paranormal
ISBN: 1-892718-33-2
Pages: 73
Rating: 5/5
Series/Anthology: 2 story novel.

About this book:
Internationally bestselling author Maggie Shayne delves into the ethics of Wicca: does a Wiccan school teacher defy her administrators, neighbors, and a student's father to teach a lonely student the truth about the religion? Will the peace of mind she can give this student spell disaster for the teacher's career, friends, and even her life? Maggie weaves a wonderful tale of faith, love, and suspence.

My thoughts:
I have been waiting for the this book for a long time. I'm a big fan of Shayne's and I love reading her stories about Witches. I have never been let down when it comes to her stories. Anyways, this story was fantastic. I didn't realize that it was a suspense story though until the end. If you love witches, the wiccan religion, magic in general, you'll love this story. I'm so happy that I finally got this book in my hands. I've waited for about 2 years for this book to become available on paperbackswap and sure enough, it has. Thank you to whoever sent it to me. This story just makes me realize how much I love Shayne's work. Even though the stories are kind of predictable they make me happy inside. However, some of the endings are a bit too "happily ever after" but, the rest of the story is great.

There are some very dangerous people after her, but they didn't count on Anna stepping into the fray. Now they're about to learn that to a bounty hunter with an unnatural thirst for blood, even the deadliest human predators are easy prey...

My thoughts:
This book was actually pretty good. I enjoyed the first book in the series so I was hoping that I would enjoy the second. There's hardly any romance in it which is kinda a bummer but it was still pretty good. There was a lot of mystery in this book too which I liked and I thought made it even better than the first book. However it was a little boring in some parts.

Pages: 434
Rating: 5/5
Series/Anthology: 3rd in the Black Dagger Brotherhood Series

About this book:
A former blood slave, the vampire Zsadist still bears the scars from a past filled with suffering and humiliation. Renowned for his unquenchable fury and sinister deeds, he is a savage feared by humans and vampires alike. Anger is his only companion and terror his only passion - until he rescues a beautiful female from the evil Lessening Society.

Bella is instantly entranced by the seething power Zsadist possesses. But even as their desire for each other begins to overtake them, Zsadist's thirst for vengeance against Bella's tormentors drives him to the brink of madness. Now Bella must help her lover overcome the wounds of his tortured past and find a future with her....

My thoughts:
I loved this book. It started out a little slow for me but I really ended up liking it!!! Anyways, so far I think that Rhage's story is my favorite. I cried like a baby reading that book and only a little bit in this one. I do have to admit that this book was more funny and I really enjoyed laughing at Zsadist. He loved Bella so much and he wanted to be what she wanted but he felt that he was dirty because he was a blood slave in the past. She tried to be so patient with him but he just kept pushing her away and being mean. I loved the character that Ward made with Zsadist. She made people love him but yet hate him in the same kind of way. I mean, who wouldn't love a guy that didn't know his way around a relationship and that was just starting to figure out what love was? But then again, he was so mean to everybody you hated him but you also understood what Zsadist when through to make him that way. I hope that makes sense. Anyways, a very good book.

Pages: 441
Rating: 5/5
Series/Anthology: 2nd in the Black Dagger Brotherhood series.

About this book:
Within the brotherhood, Rhage is the vampire with the strongest appetites. He's the best fighter, the quickest to act on his impulses, and the most voracious lover - for inside him burns a ferocious curse cast by the Scribe Virgin. Mary Luce, a survivor of many hardships, is unwittingly thrown into the vampire world and reliant on Rhage's protection. With a life-threatening curse of her own. Mary is not looking for love. She lost her faith in miracles years ago. But when Rhage's intense animal attraction turns into something more emotional, he knows that he must make Mary his alone. And while their enemies close in, Mary fights desperately to gain life eternal with the one she loves...

My thoughts:
When I first started this series, I didn't think that I was going to like it because I'm not big on "warriors". I LOVE vampires but not warriors. So I was hesitant to pick it up and start the series. I was talked into it by my aunt and a friend that I met online on paperbackswap. So I figured I'd give it a try. I love this series!!! I feel like I'm a part of these books like I'm actually there with them. Like I'm reading about my family or friends. This book hit so close to home because Mary has cancer. I found out that my dad has cancer about a month ago. I had a hard time reading about her cancer talks with the doctor and such. J.R. Ward is a fantastic writer and to think that all this creativity was from one woman's mind is beyond me. I just can't fathom that someone could come up with all this and put it into words that a reader can actually picture it in their minds.

The whole ending...Mean SPOILERS!!! )

HIs tales of brotherhood and blood frighten her. But his touch ignites a dawning hunger that threatens the consume them both...

My thoughts:
I had a little bit of a hard time understand what was going on in this book. I'm not used to authors just jumping into a story and not explaining whats going on. I really hated the parts with the lessers because I had no clue what they were and that they were even immortal. Anyways, the book was good and I enjoyed Wrath's story.

I loved reading about Butch and Marissa too. I can't wait until their story!!! When I started this book, I fell for Wrath. My heart just hurt for him because I could just feel his pain coming off the pages. It was cool.

My thoughts:
I'm going to do this a little different. While I was reading, I wrote down my feelings and thoughts about some of the sections of the book since it was so big. So I'm going to copy and paste here and then add my thoughts about the book since I finished it.

About this book:
It's not every day that you come across a naked man on the side of the road. That's why cocktail waitress Sookie Stackhouse doesn't just drive on by. Turns out the poor thing hasn't a clue who he is, but Sookie does. It's Eric the Vampire - but now he's a kinder, gentler Eric. And a scared Eric, because whoever took his memory now wants his life. Sookie's investigation into who and why leads straight into a dangerous battle amoung witches, vampireis, and wereworlves. But a greater danger could be to Sookie's heart - because this version of Eric is very difficult to resist...

My Thoughts:
I LOVED this book! Even better than the last book! With this book, I loved that Eric last his memory and how totally different he is. Like it says on the back of his the book, Eric is now kinder and loveable. He's nice and thinks of others...unlike before he lost his memory, he was rude and always trying to get into Sookie's pants. He thought only about himself. A BIG difference. Major Spoilers.... )

ISBN: 0441010512

Series/Anthology: Yes, book 3 of the Southern Vampire Mystery series.

About this book:
There's only one vampire Sookie Stackhouse is involved with (at least voluntarily) and that's Bill. But recently he's been a little distant - in another state, distant. His sinister and sexy boss Eric has an idea where to find him. Next thing Sookie knows, she is off to Jackson, Mississippi to mingle with under-under world at Club Dead. It's a dangerous little haunt where the elitist vampire society can go to chill out and suck down some type O. But when Sookie finallky finds Bill - caught in an act of serious betrayal - she's not sure whether to save him...or sharpen some stakes.

My thoughts:
Awesome! So much better than book 2. I loved Alcide! I totally wanted Sookie to end up with him snice Bill cheated on her with Lorena. I liked all the adventure in this book. I think Harris outdid herself with this one. I hope Sookie doesn't take Bill back because of his cheating and his lying. I'd like to think that Eric really and truely has feelings for Sookie and just doesn't want to get her into bed. Since Harris is pushing the whole Eric and Sookie relationship, that is probably something to look forward to in upcoming books, but who knows.

About this book:
Payen Carr has reappeared at a most inconvenient time: on the eve of Violet's wedding. But Payen desperately needs her help, for his immortal life is suddenly at stake...and Violet's mortal one as well.

My thoughts:
Very good but not as good as the others in the series. This was more for fun and romance than actually part of the series so you could read it without reading the other books. I twas very good though. Smith knows not to rush a story when it's in an anthology. She makes the story flow better.

This story did remind me of Be Mine Tonight also by Kathryn Smith which is the first in the Blood Brotherhood series. I loved Violet's character though. She is a strong woman and I loved the fact that she's a heavier set woman. Most romance novels, the women in them are beautiful and skinny. Never a heavier set woman. So I liked that since I can relate to that. In the book, they refered to her as an Amazon woman. Which I didn't really like but oh well. Other than that, nothing else I have to say on the story except it was very cut and dry.

My thoughts:
I loved this story. Shayne has such a fantastic imagination. It kind of reminded me of the movie Practical Magic which is also a book by Alice Hoffman I believe. Kind of the same aspect as that. I must say though, that I hate it when Shayne puts her stories in anthology books especially when it's good enough to put into a full length novel. Everything felt so rushed and Shayne could've drawn this story out to be a full length book.

Title: Dead Until Dark
Author: Charlaine Harris
Genre: Fantasy
ISBN: 0-441-08853-4
Pages: 260
Rating: 5/5
Series/Anthology: Yes, first book in the series.

About this book:
Sookie Stackhouse is a small-time cocktail waitress in small-town Lousiana. She's quiet, keeps to herself, and doesn't get out much. Not because she's not pretty. She is. It's just that, well, Sookie has this sort of "disability". She can read minds. And that doesn't make her too dateable And then along comes Bill. He's tall, dark, handsome - and Sookie can't hear a world he's thinking. He's exactly the type of guy she's been waiting for all her life....

But Bill has a disability of his own: He's a vampire with a bad reputation. He hangs with a seriously creepy crowd, all suspected of - big surprises - murder. And when one of Sookie's coworkers is killed, she fears she's next....

My thoughts:
After all the hype I've heard about this series, I have to say that the first book was actually not too bad. I really enjoyed this book although it was a little boring in the beginning but what book isn't when it has to explain who the characters are and all that kinds of stuff. This book is actually really different than most vampire books. All the vampires are allowed to exist in the human world and it's illegal to kill a vampire. Pretty interesting. Takes you back to when the blacks weren't allowed to be around the whites and then all of a sudden they're allowed to and you can't discriminate. Almost the same in a way, but then rather different.

I liked the different aspects of this book. It made me laugh with how funny Sookie is. Her laughing at Bill's name because it should be mysterious and all that because he's a vampire. The way that she can't have sex with men because she knows what they're thinking. Really gave it a great effect. I'm used to books that are so serious and don't have a lot of humor to them. Pretty different aspects that's for sure. I loved the characters. Sookie and Bill of course were my favorite although I loved Sam too. He was great.Spoilers... ). All in all, great book. I'm hoping that all the characters are going to be in the next books...

Series/Anthology? Yes, it's the 3rd and 4th book in the series.

About this book:
Elena: transformed, the golden girl has become what she once feared and desired.

Stefan: tormented by losing Elena, he's determined to end his feud with Damon once and for all -what ever the cost. But slowly he begins to realize that his brother is not his only enemy.

Damon: at last, he possesses Elena. But will his thirst for revenge against Stefan poison his triumph? Or can they come together to face one final battle?

My thoughts:
Again, I loved this book. This has been a great year for reading. Anyways, I loved the 3rd story the best out of all of them I think. The first 2 books were more of Elena and Stefan's love story whereas the 3rd book was more exciting and a lot more action going on. The 4th book was okay. Not as good as the others but I think it was because Elena wasn't in it too much. The ending was great though although it ended too happily ever afterish. :\ Like I said in my previous entry when I read the first 2 books, this series reminds me of Stephenie Meyer's Twilight series but so much better. I think anyways. I think that the Twilight series has a lack of creativity to it unlike Smith's Vampire Diaries. Still both were good but the Vampire Diaries was so much better. Now for spoilers...

Series/Anthology? Yes, the first 2 books in the series.

About this book:
Elena: The golden girl, the leader, the one who can have any boy she wants.

Stefan: Brooding and mysterious, he seems to be the only one who can resister Elena, even as he struggles to protect her from the horrors that haunt his past.

Damon: Sexy, dangerous, and driven by an urge for revenge against Stefan, the brother who betrayed him. Determined to have Elena, he'd kill to possess her.

My thoughts:
I love this book. I'm loving this series. I had read a bad review on it and I didn't know if I wanted to get it or not and hope that the library had it. I ended up getting it and I'm so glad that I did. I would say that I would match this series to Stephenie Meyer's Twilight series which I'm addicted to as well. This is just going to get added to that addiction. The characters were great and I loved them all. Even the bad ones.

All in all, I'm impressed with L.J. Smith and will definitely look into her other books. I think she has a fantastic writing style and enough spunk to keep the reader guessing. I loved what she did with this series that Ms. Meyer lacked in her series.

Zoey doesn't have a clue how to help her, but she does know that anything she and Stevie Rae discover must be kept secret from everyone else at the House of Night, where trust has become a rare commodity. Speaking of a rare, Zoey finds herself in the very rare position of having three boyfriends, a situation with the potential to spell social disaster. Then vampyres start turning up dead. Really dead. But as Zoey and her friends find out, things are not always what they seem...

My thoughts:
I loved this book right along with all of the other books in the series. This one was a little more...less adventuress I guess you would say but it was still good and major things happen in this book so it's not like you can skip over it. Anyways, P.C. Cast and her daughter have done an excellent job with this series and have a very creative imagination. I think that all young adults or even adults to that like fantasy or vampires would love this series.

My thoughts:
I thought this book was honestly one of the best romance books I've ever read. It was perfect. A great storyline, awesome characters, and of course hot and steamy sex. LoL. Anyways, Bast did a great job and this is the first time I've heard of her so I hope she continues to write. This is the 1st in a series and the 2nd book is called Witch Blood which I plan on reading. So anyways, I loved the relationship between Mira and Jack. It was a hot romantic sexy relationship that blossomed into love in the best way. I loved reading about them spending time together and the flirting between them. A great book for lovers of paranormal romance.
